William Goss “Bill” Lutman, 92, a long time resident of Munroe Falls, Ohio, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025 in Savannah, GA. Bill was born on September 23, 1933 to Goss and Mildred Lutman, and he lived most of his life in the Akron area.

His favorite childhood memories were of spending summers during WWII at his mother's family farm in Pine Flats, PA, where he played and helped with chores along with numerous cousins and other relatives.  He always dreamed of moving back there someday.

Having enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1953, Bill was a proud veteran of the Mighty Eighth Air Force's 375th Bomb Squadron (SAC), serving as a flight mechanic on the first jet-powered American bomber, the B-47 Stratofortress. After his honorable discharge, Bill got a job with Ohio Bell Telephone in Akron, and he worked there for over 30 years before retiring.

Bill and his wife, Adele, traveled extensively after his retirement.  They visited many unique and interesting places, and he was proud of his famous “been to” list. In addition to travel, Bill enjoyed numerous hobbies. His longtime favorite was ham radio, where he held the highest class amateur radio license issued by the FCC. He also liked R/C airplane flying, and he spent countless hours at the “flying field” at the Summit County Fairgrounds as a member of the Goodyear Model Aircraft Club. He was very good at both endeavors.  An accomplished “tinkerer”, he was known for his ability to rig up just about anything to solve a problem around the house.

Bill had a great sense of humor and enjoyed engaging in light-hearted verbal jousting with anyone who would play along. He never shied away from a friendly debate. He was well liked by everyone who knew him and he will be terribly missed.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his sister, Ethel Mae (Bud) Rich. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 70 years, as well as children, Tom (Jill), Bill and Heidi (Don), along with five grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.

A private burial will be held at the Ohio Western Reserve National Veteran's Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Munroe Falls Fire Department, whose thoughtful and caring personnel assisted Bill in his later years when he was in need.

As he said thousands of times over the years when talking on the radio to people from all over the world - “73's (so long) from WA8NOI.”
