It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William Lloyd Carter Sr., known affectionately as Lloyd, on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, in Savannah, Georgia. Lloyd lived a full and adventurous life, passing away just days after his 77th birthday surrounded by his loved ones.
Born on May 17, 1948, in Savannah, Georgia, Lloyd lived a life marked by adventure, service, and craftsmanship. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps, where he served honorably during the Vietnam War. His dedication to his country was mirrored by his passion for his work. Lloyd was an accomplished ironworker and later became self-employed as a skilled welder and fabricator, crafting creations limited only by imagination until his health began to decline.
Lloyd's zest for life was evident in his love for speed, whether he was behind the wheel of a hot rod or cruising on his Harley. A true water enthusiast, he found joy in all things aquatic, from fishing in his beloved pond to water skiing — even performing in thrilling water skiing pyramids. When on dry land, Lloyd cherished his time with Axel, his loyal canine companion, as they enjoyed westerns together.
Family was paramount to Lloyd. He leaves behind his loving children: Kasey Greene (Dustin), J.R. Carter (Courtney), Carol Tatsch (Jeff), and Clint West (Jessica). His legacy continues with his cherished grandchildren, Cash and Ryder Carter, Ethan and Montgomery Newsom, and Harley and Julian West, as well as great-grandchildren Marcie Rahn, Millie Newsom, and Westin Hall. He is also survived by his dear sisters, Judy Gale Harley and Edith Elizabeth Carter; and his two favorite nieces Mandy and Kassidy Young.
Lloyd was predeceased by his parents, Julian H. Carter and Edith Mae Siebeck Carter; his grandparents, Dudley and Carrie Siebeck, and William and Florence Carter; and his sister, Catherine M. Carter.
In honor of Lloyd's adventurous spirit and love for life, we remember a man who lived with no regrets, accomplishing all he set out to do and more, leaving behind memories that will forever linger in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, from 3:00 to 4:00 PM at Baker McCullough Funeral Home - Garden City Chapel. Lloyd's life will be celebrated with a memorial service immediately following at 4:00 PM in the chapel.
