Savannah - William Griffin Allen, Sr. 91, died October 2nd, 2026.


He was born in Savannah, July 31, 1935, He was a member and served as president of the

Leader's Club of the downtown YMCA. He was a member of the Commercial High Kiwanis

Key Club and was a member of the Cross-Country Track Team. He was a member of Ship

Number 25, Sea Scout Troup. He was eight years as a member of the Naval Reserve Unit of

Savannah. He graduated in January 1954 from Commercial High School in Savannah.


He was the treasurer of the Savelu Sub-District of the Savannah Methodist Church in 1953.

He attended the 1952 and the 1953 Methodist Summer Camp at Wesleyan College in

Macon, Georgia, and completed courses in Youth and Missions, World Friendship, and

Recreation. He attended the Savannah Evening School of the Bible in 1955 and completed

the requirements in New Testament Evangelism. He earned his Licenses to Preach May 14,

1955. He was a member of The Gideons International.


He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Carrollton, Georgia. He was a member

of the Covenant Sunday School Class and served as co-chairman of the 1992 Educational

Committee; completed the requirements of Disciple I & II; the Stephen Ministry. and the

Crown Ministries. He was a Spiritual Director for the North Georgia Emmaus Community

Walks - Men's # 17 and Women's # 18.


He was graduated from Georgia Southern College in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science

Degree in Elementary Education. He was graduated from University of Georgia in 1970 with

a master's degree in public School Administration. He was enrolled in 1995 for one

semester at Chandler School of Theology at Emory University.


He was a student pastor of the Habersham Charge in Jenkins Georgia in 1955; was an

assistant to Pastor Russell Lenox of Robert McIntire Methodist Church in Savannah in 1956

- 1957; was the student pastor of the Bulloch County Circuit in Statesboro, Georgia 1957 -

1959. Then in 1995 - 1997 he served as the pastor of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist

Church in Rome, Georgia, in 1997 - 1999. He served as pastor of Emory Chapel United

Methodist Church in Newnan, Georgia. He was a member of a ten-day Holy Land tour

group in 1997.


He was retired after thirty-two years from the Georgia Public School Education System in

1991. He was a sixth-grade teacher and/or an elementary schools principal in Savannah,

Georgia; Canaan, New Hampshire; Orlando, Florida; Carrollton, Georgia; Cumming,

Georgia; Conroe, Texas, and Douglasville, Georgia.


He was an American Red Cross Water Safety and First Aid Instructor for thirty years. He was

the Canaan, New Hampshire 1962 Chairman of the American Red Cross Fund Drive. He

was an instructor for the Civil Defense Medical Self Help Training Course. He was an

employee of the Cheshire County YMCA CAMP TAKODAH for fifteen summers as

Leadership Training Director and/or Waterfront Personnel. He was employed as waterfront

personnel for Birch Rock Camp in East Waterford, Maine; Camp Eva Good and Camp

Summit in Cedar Mountain, North Carolina; Wohelo Camp for Girls in Waynesboro,

Pennsylvania; Falling Creek Camp for Boys, and Greystone Camp for Girls in Tuxedo, North

Carolina.

One sister-in law - Louise Lake Alien

Three sons and three daughters-in-law - William GriƯin Allen, Jr and his wife Casey Johnson

Allen, Paul Michael Allen and his wife Nicole Joliene Allen, David Mark Allen and his wife

Emily Anne Allen.

Grandchildren - Cole Allen, Jonathan Allen, Jesse Allen, Courtney Barrett, Ashley Pence,

Avery Allen, Catherine Allen, Lucie Allen, June Allen, Cailyn Allen, Adelyn Allen.

Nephews and Nieces - Julie Allen, Pamela Wickham, Joyce Mullendore, Joseph Edward

Allen III and Ian Phillips.


Visitation and Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026 at the

Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home, located at 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA

31406. Family and friends are invited to gather for a time of visitation from 2:00 PM to 3:00

PM, with the memorial service immediately following from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM. A graveside

service will take place directly afterward at 3:30 PM at Bonaventure Cemetery, 330

Bonaventure Drive, Savannah, GA 31404.
