Walter Edward Hammond III, affectionately known to many as Eddie, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 1st, 2025, at his home in Baxley, Georgia. Born on September 5th, 1986, in Savannah, Georgia, Eddie's life, though faced with challenges, was filled with joy, love, and a contagious zest for life that touched everyone who knew him.
Despite being disabled, Eddie’s presence lit up any room he entered. He had an infectious smile and a unique ability to spread unconditional love to everyone around him. His days were filled with simple joys; he loved watching pinwheels spin, playing in the sprinklers, and had a great affection for food, with pizza being his favorite. His nights were never complete without a comforting cup of hot chocolate.
Christmas was Eddie's favorite time of the year, a season that encapsulated the magic and warmth he carried within him. His room was perpetually adorned with a small Christmas tree, a testament to his enduring love for the holiday’s twinkling lights and festive spirit.
Eddie is survived by his mother and daddy, Cynthia and Curtis Shuman, father and stepmother, Walter E. Hammond Jr. and Brenda Hammond. In addition, his life was profoundly enriched by the love and care of his "second mother," Alise Price. Eddie shared a close bond with his siblings, Alicia Hoffer (Skyler), Christina Cantaline (Sean), Samantha Cochran (Bobby), Richard Shuman, and Thaddeus LaPhillip Nails. His presence will be deeply missed by his numerous nieces and nephews—Autumn, Michael, Jace, Arabella, Adalyn, Jacquelyn, Alexander, and Thomas—and his grandmother, Loretta Cornell. He is also survived by aunts and uncles, Sheri Graves, Johnny Turner Jr. (Cathy), Vicky Smith, David Barnes, Angela Shuman, Aaron Hammond (Vicky), Shannon Hammond (Sherry), Mike Hammond (Rhonda) and Mark Hammond, a cherished family friend, Mr. Leon Sanders, whom Eddie fondly called Buddy and caretaker, Miss Tina Lemon.
He was preceded in death by his house dad, Thomas Price, his "Papa" Johnny Turner Sr., his sister Crystal Kaye Cantaline, grandparents Margaret and Walter Hammond Sr., Hilda Shuman and Phil Cornell and his uncle Richard Graves Sr.
