Thurman “T.J.” Strickland, age 83, of Savannah, Georgia passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2024 surrounded by his family.
T.J. was born to the parents of Pauline Ray and Millard J. Strickland in Reidsville,Georgia. T.J. attended Glennville High School, and graduated in 1959. A year later, T.J. married his highschool sweetheart Ms. Elaine Wells Strickland. Soon after Mr. and Mrs. Strickland married, the couple moved to Savannah, Georgia. T.J. attended Technical College while working at Georgia Pacific formerly Flint Jepson. T.J. went on to start his own business, Strickland Heating and Air.
T.J. was one of a kind and irreplaceable. He was a great father who attempted to instill life skills and lessons upon two sons and a daughter. However, it was his grandchildren who softened his heart and could get away with anything. He loved being a Grandfather.
In his spare time, T.J. enjoyed fixing up motors in old tractors and cars, farming, and fishing. T.J. was a member at Bible Baptist Church for 58 years.
T.J. is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Michele Goss; and his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elaine Wells Strickland; two sons, Mitchell “Mike” Strickland (Brenda Faye), Dale Strickalnd (Sherrie); three grandchildren, Christy Strickland, Jordan Strickland (Rachel), Trenton Strickland (Kylee); six great grandchildren, Gracelynn, Graham, Brenleigh, Rilynn, McKinsley, Jackson, and one on the way; four siblings, LaMont Strickland (Rosalee), Dora Lee Strickland, Lanell Sikes (Charles), Melbaline Bugajski (Bugs); and many nieces and nephews.
The family will be receiving friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday February 2, 2024 at Bible Baptist Church, 4700 Skidaway Road, Savannah, Georgia 31404. A funeral service will be held at the end of visitation and will begin at 11:30 a.m.
Interment will take place 3:00 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 2989 Oak Grove Rd, Glennville, GA 30427.
