Sarah Ann Wood Oglesby, daughter of Will and Inez Wood, (birth mother, Inez Wood died when she was eight months old), came to live and was raised by a beloved aunt and uncle, Sterling and Floy Farr, who had three children of their own: Catherine Madeline Calhoun, Welcome Gibson Farr (WG), and Adelaide Floy Waller.
She is survived by her husband, Warren Forsyth Oglesby, Jr, children Sheryl O. Howell (Stephen) Warren F. Oglesby, III, (Lisa) and Judith O. Cundy (Timothy), grandchildren, Sarah Davis, (Jonathan), Shelby Cox, (Garrett), Leigh Castleberry, (Josh), Wade Oglesby, (Bre), Paige Walker, (Michael), Holly Helmly,(Dana) and Timothy J.(TJ) Cundy, Jr., (Brittany) and 15 great grandchildren.
Ann graduated from Commercial High School in 1952. She was employed with Mingledorrff’s, Inc., as a receptionist, and she rose to be secretary to W. Lee Mingledorff, Jr., president of Mingledorff’s. Then, became his secretary when he was elected to be mayor of the city of Savannah in 1955. She retired in 1957 to raise a family. She returned to the workforce in 1974 as administrative assistant to Jim Bison, Director of Public Affairs, Georgia Ports Authority. Retired from Georgia Ports Authority after 21 years of service.
She enjoyed sewing Easter dresses, Christmas outfits, and special occasion dresses for her daughters. After retirement, Ann enjoyed traveling and was an avid reader of historical novels.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Garden City since she was fifteen years old, where she was a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School director and worker, involved in mission work, a bus driver for the kindergarten class and sang in the church choir for over 50 years. She was proud to serve as a member of the building committee for the construction of what is now the current sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Garden City.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Comfort Keepers of Savannah and Bright Hospice for the care of Ann.
A celebration of her life is planned for 12:00 pm Saturday, July 19, 2025 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home Garden City Chapel. The family will receive family and friends one hour prior to the celebration of life. Burial will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia.
