Sally Sue Wallace, aged 81, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at Piedmont Newnan Hospital in Newnan, Georgia.
Born the daughter of John and Olive Fabricius on April 23, 1944, on their family farm near Hill City, Kansas. Sally adored her father and cherished many memories of horseback riding with him and working on the farm. After his passing while she was still a teenager, she and her mother drew strength from each other to live full lives. Shortly following high school graduation, the love of her life “skated” into the picture as she headed off to college. Then, on January 9, 1963, Sally Sue and Max William Wallace were wed. Together, they raised six sons.
Sally proudly stood by her husband’s side during his expansive 20+ years of service in the United States Army. During this time, Sally worked full-time in various fields to support their growing family, building memories and instilling her boys with a love for horses. Sally also found time to pursue her pilot license and would take the family on vacations in the planes she piloted. After serving at various stations across the country (including Kansas, Alaska, Missouri, and Illinois), the military finally brought their family to Georgia, where they fell in love with the beauty of Savannah and decided to make it their permanent residence.
In Savannah, Sally attended Armstrong State College, pursuing her passion for education and serving others. Sally went on to obtain a certification through the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council and completed a career in law enforcement, serving as a Detective for the Georgia Ports Authority.
Sally and Max maintained a small farm property where their love for animals was proudly displayed as they spent much of their free time there with their family, horses, and other livestock.
Once she and Max were ready to retire from their second careers, as a team, they decided to embark upon a third where their adventures would take them international. They began working overseas, initially serving as United Nations Peacekeepers in Bosnia in the late 1990s. It was during this time that their spark for travel and adventure was truly ignited. Both Max and Sally went on to work overseas at U.S. Embassies in Russia, Iraq, and China, until returning home to Savannah in 2013. They made the most of the opportunity to see the world, various cultures, and fanning the flames, instilling this passion in their children and grandchildren alike.
Sally lived a full life. She loved her family fiercely. Despite her small stature, she was a force to be reckoned with. With six rowdy boys and a strong-minded military husband, Sally somehow always confidently commanded a room. She was beautiful, brilliant, stubborn, and loved thrifting. She could often be found near her library with a good book in hand. She was a skillful storyteller and a meticulous collector of treasures. She was brave, independent, and loyal. She was not afraid to dream big. Sally believed with everything in her being that you could do anything you set your mind to, and she raised sons with this belief as a cornerstone to the foundation in their own lives.
Sally especially loved those occasions where her boys and their families would gather, recounting childhood memories. Her eyes seemed to twinkle as she listened intently to her sons to share some outlandish, cartoon-like story of their raising of six boys, retold in such a manner that kept everyone on the edge of their seats as if hearing it for the first time. And with a smile that told you she earned every single one of her laugh lines from her boys, her conclusion to each story they shared was the same joyous proclamation, “Incredible! Simply incredible.” That was the life she lived – it was incredible. And so was she.
Sally is preceded in death by her beloved husband of sixty years, Max.
She is survived by their six sons, twelve grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren: Youngest to oldest: Clinton (his wife, Christina & their son, Ethan), John (his wife, Michelle, & their six children: Abigail (Rogelio & their sons Rojelio Jr & baby boy on the way), Sarah (her husband, Micah & their three children: Elizabeth, Josiah, Elijah), Jared, Aiden, Olivia & Teagan), Lincoln, Brian (his son, William Ryan & his wife, Briana & their three children: Hunter, Savannah & Emmaleigh), Curtis (his wife, Lisa & their son, Harrison), Max Jason (his wife, Christine & their three children: Jamie (her husband, Robbie & their two children, Vivian & Brody), Nick, & Laura.
