Robert Andrew “Andy” Sapp
November 10, 1949 – March 30, 2026
Robert Andrew “Andy” Sapp, born November 10, 1949, in Savannah, Georgia, to Pearl and Bob Sapp, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026, meeting Jesus with a smile on his face.
As a young man, Andy loved to surf and found great joy in sharing that passion with his three grandsons. In adulthood, he enjoyed fishing, camping, trips to the mountains, and, most of all, spending time with family and friends around the campfire.
Andy proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Alexander Hamilton nuclear submarine from 1969 to 1973, with his brother Jerry .He later worked for CSX Railroad and retired from Georgia-Pacific Paper Company in 2007.
A longtime member of Silk Hope Baptist Church, Andy faithfully served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and committee member. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, papa, friend, and a faithful Christian.
Andy is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Dale Harris Sapp; his daughters, Candice Sapp and Missi Sapp McMakin (Joel); his grandsons, Layne, Wesley, and Max; his brother, Jerry Sapp (Susan); his niece, Shari Donaldson (Jeff); his nephew, Danny Sapp; several great-nieces and great-nephews; special cousins; and his cherished companion, Pixie Sapp.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at DaVita Dialysis Center, Dr. Day and Hospice of Savannah for their compassionate care and support during Andy’s final days.
They also extend sincere thanks to Dr Erik Thomas for all of his care, compassion and friendship and to family and friends for the love and support shown over the past several years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Silk Hope Baptist Church or Hospice of Savannah.
A funeral service celebrating Andy’s life will be held on Thursday, April 2, at 11:30 a.m. at Silk Hope Baptist Church, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Reverend Jonathan Phillips, Reverend Joel McMakin, Reverend Dusty Reynolds, and Reverend Ronnie Kilburn will officiate the service and graveside ceremony. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Abbey West.
