Robert J. Hodges, Sr. (Daddy, RJ, Papa, Mr. Hodges), age 90, of Savannah passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 in his home surrounded by family.
Mr. Hodges was born on December 19, 1935 in Savannah to the late Julian Hodges and the late Maggie Edmunds Hodges.
His legacy is Hodges Airpark (GA39) which is a tribute to decades of his "hard work", love for aviation, and his dream. He often conveyed, "this is my mosaic". He attained a commercial pilot license, mechanic license, and reports he "solo'd" after only 5 hours of flight instruction! Mr. Hodges was a "mentor" to many, offering a plethora of experience and wisdom to anyone with an interest to learn. Well, if you did not have an interest, he would tell you, "let me show you".
Robert was a member of the Elks, Savannah Shag Club, and the 13th Colony Sound. His generosity touched many lives. He is and will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne Frost Hodges; his sister, Edwina Thomas; his son, Christopher Mark Hodges; his step-granddaughter, Christina Aliffi; and his step-daughter, Barbara Frost.
Survivors include his sister, Rose Wilson; his children, Robert J. Hodges Jr. (Marsha), Catherine (Melice) Gerace (Joe), James Hodges, and Kimberly Hodges; step-children, Butch Frost (Michelle) and Brenda Daigle; as well as a magnificent multitude of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel (7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah GA 31406) followed by a funeral service in the chapel at 1:00 p.m.
Interment will follow at Hillcrest Abbey East Memorial Park (1600 Wheaton Street, Savannah, GA 31404).
