MSG Ricky Lee Tootle, USAF (Ret), age 62, devoted husband, brother, uncle, and faithful friend, departed this life on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. Born in Savannah, Georgia on October 24, 1963, Ricky lived a life dedicated to service, family, and community.
Ricky was a graduate of Windsor Forest High School, class of 1981, after which he embarked on a distinguished career in the United States Air Force. Over his 30 years, 2 months, and 21 days of service, he served during the Cold War and was deployed to Baghdad, Iraq, and Qatar, epitomizing bravery and commitment. Upon retiring from the military, Ricky continued his dedication to public service in the federal government, working in logistics with the United States Forest Service until his retirement in 2016.
His passions that extended beyond his professional life included riding his Harley Davidson, engaging in a round of golf, or cheering enthusiastically for the Georgia Dawgs, as he was a proud fan of SEC football. He was a member of the Savannah Baptist Temple.
Ricky is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Paula R. Tootle, his brother Sidney Tootle, and his nephew Craig Tootle (Rachel) and their children, Abby and Claire. He is also survived by his father-in-law Earl F. Sutherland, his sister-in-law Amy Fitzgerald (Tom), and his nieces Erin Faulk (Whit) and Emily Davis (Rusty) along with their children, Lela and Rori. He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Maria Tootle.
A funeral service honoring Ricky's life and service will be held at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 8819 U.S. Highway 301, Glennville, Georgia 30427, on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 1:00 pm.
The family is deeply grateful for those who wish to express condolences and support; in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416, or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10306.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Baker McCullough Funeral Home Hodgson Memorial Chapel.
