Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Purvis Jacob Deal, who departed this life on Friday, August 7, 2026. Born in the close-knit community of Garfield, Georgia, on Tuesday, March 8, 1938, Purvis lived a life marked by love, dedication, and service.

A long-standing resident of Garden City, GA, Purvis was a beloved figure known for his gentle spirit and steadfast character. His career as a Maintenance Supervisor at Stone Container spanned decades, where he was highly respected for his work ethic and leadership until his retirement.

Purvis was a man of the Methodist faith and found great joy in fishing — a pastime he cherished deeply. His sense of camaraderie extended beyond family and friends to various organizations. He was an esteemed member of the Alee Shrine Temple Patrol Unit and later the Dune Cats, as well as a dedicated member of the Frank F. Baker Masonic Lodge #46 F&AM.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 34 years, Kathleen "Kathy" Deal, who was the love and anchor of his life. He leaves behind a legacy through his daughter Sharon and her husband Elliott "French Fry" French, his stepson Donnie and his wife Sonya Brown, and his cherished grandchildren: Shanna Englebach (Matthew), Lindsey Mixon (Matthew Breedon), and Brandon Mixon (Vanessa). He is also fondly remembered by his step-grandchildren, Ashley Sands and Gracie Brown, great grandchildren, Rowan and Vincent Mixon, and his sister, Audrie Brabham, along with numerous other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Purvis Jacob Deal Sr. and Virginia Drew Deal, along with his sister, Helen Johnson, who undoubtedly welcomed him into the next life with open arms.

A graveside service to honor Purvis's memory will be held at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia, on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 2:45 pm.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Baker McCullough Funeral Home Garden City Chapel, where the community is invited to pay their respects. For further information, please contact them at 912-964-2862 or visit their website at www.bakermccullough.com.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered support and comfort during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, they kindly request that donations be made in Purvis's memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting his generous spirit and compassionate heart.

Purvis Jacob Deal will be sorely missed, but his legacy of kindness and dedication will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
