Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia Hendry DePriest, who passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. Born on September 15, 1941, in Wauchula, Florida to the late James Whidden Hendry and the late Mary Elizabeth Josey Hendry, Patricia was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Patricia who went by Trish later in life graduated from Hardee County High School in Wauchula, Florida in 1959. She attended Florida Southern University in Lakeland, Florida. Her future husband, Roy, was being sent to Navy Officer Candidate School in Rhode Island so she chose to get married and moved to Rhode Island instead of finishing college.

Trish wrote radio commercials for WTOC in 1966 when she and Roy moved to Savannah. Trish was very active in Windsor Forest Elementary PTA and St. Paul’s Lutheran Day School PTA when her children attended the schools.

Through connections she had at WTOC she landed her dream job working for Congressman Lindsay Thomas in 1984 as a caseworker. She was so good at this job, Congressman Jack Kingston hired her to work for him. She retired in 2018 at the age of 78 from Congressman Buddy Carter’s office for a total of 34 years helping constituents with all sorts of problems

Trish’s hobbies were buying shower curtains at Bealles Outlets (she had over 15!), reading every book at the Oglethorpe Mall Public Library, smoking and worrying about her family and friends. She shocked everyone by voluntarily giving up smoking at New Years this year.

Trish was known for her sharp wit, sarcasm, Olympic level eye rolling and vast knowledge of just about everything. She loved helping everyone and had a magnetic personality. Everyone knew Trish. If you didn’t know her personally, someone you know knew her. She mothered everyone whether they wanted it or not.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Joseph Roy DePriest Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisanne (James, Jr.) Leeds and their son Daniel of Roswell, Ga., her son, Jamey (Jennifer) and their children Savanna (Brad), Jordan (Hannah) and Joshua of Ellijay, Ga., and great grandchild, Johnny Cash Curtis. . Other family members include her sister Kay Cone of Wauchula, Fl. and sister-in-law Ann Gaston of Houston, Tx., niece and nephew, Larissa Gaston and Bryan Gaston (and family).
