Dr. Michael Arthur Mullen, Ph.D.

Dr. Michael Arthur Mullen, Ph.D., 82, of Huntington, Long Island, New York, passed away on February 6, 2026, in Savannah, Georgia. Born on July 8, 1943, he was the son of Chester A. Mullen and Mildred A. (Avino) Mullen.

Mike was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather whose greatest joy was spending time with his family. He shared 52 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Kathleen (Kathi) M. Mullen.

He is survived by his children, Lori Alexander Farrell, Benjamin (Van) Alexander, and Heidi A. Flanders; his adored grandchildren, Amanda Edwards, Morgan Farrell, Lauren Farrell, Ben Edwards, Carson Farrell, Ashton Alexander, Ethan Alexander, and Alec Flanders; and his beloved sister, Kathy A. Posser, her husband Russell Posser, and their son Alex Posser.

Dr. Mullen was a highly accomplished research entomologist whose distinguished career with the U.S. Department of Agriculture spanned more than 30 years, followed by additional consulting work in his field. Well published and widely respected by colleagues, his research focused on stored product pests and the development of dynamic pheromone trapping systems for large-scale food storage applications. His innovative work and commitment to scientific excellence defined a career exceeding four decades of service to science and agriculture.

Beyond his professional life, Mike embraced every day with enthusiasm, warmth, and a wonderful sense of humor that brightened the lives of everyone around him. He was an avid tennis player for more than 30 years, enjoying both the sport and the friendships it brought. A member of the Optimist Club and a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, he believed deeply in community service and helping others.

Funeral services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike’s memory to the Humane Society, reflecting his lifelong love of animals and compassion for all living beings.
