Obituary

Michael Crockett, a beloved boat pilot and cherished member of the Thunderbolt, GA community, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 19th, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on a warm Thursday in August 1955, Michael began his life's journey in Brunswick, Georgia, surrounded by the love of his parents, the late Gerald Dean and Pearl Crockett.

Michael's early years were colored with the vibrant hues of coastal Georgia, where his affinity for the water began. After graduating high school, he became a commercial shrimper traveling the waters of the Atlantic and the Gulf, he then pursued a career that kept him close to his passion—serving as boat pilot with the Savannah River Pilots. Known for his gentle demeanor and strong work ethic, Michael was a respected figure among his colleagues and a mentor to many aspiring pilots.

He is survived by his loving family: brothers Gerald (Wanda) Crockett and Richard (Kathy) Crockett; sisters Karen (Paul) Lougheed and Vickie Abbott. Michael's legacy also includes several nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Mike and cherished the moments spent with him by the riverbanks and on the decks of the boat.

Michael was welcomed into eternity by his beloved parents, Gerald Dean and Pearl Crockett, who preceded him in death. His absence leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew him, as he was a man whose spirit was in perfect harmony with the rolling waves and expansive horizons.

Michael's life was a testament to his love for the water, and he was happiest when navigating the gentle currents of Savannah's rivers. His passion for the sea was complemented by his dedication to his family and friends, who will dearly miss his steadfast kindness and wisdom.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Baker McCullough Funeral Home – Garden City Chapel.

The family will hold a Private Service at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to local maritime preservation societies, ensuring that Michael's love for the sea will continue to inspire future generations.

Michael Crockett will be remembered as a loyal friend, a devoted brother, and a master of the river’s gentle embrace. May he find peace eternal, forever cradled by the waters he so dearly loved.
