Melba Smoak
Ogle
March 12, 1943 – April 20, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Melba Smoak Ogle, born March 12, 1943, in Conway, South Carolina, who left this world knowing she was deeply loved by her family and friends.
Melba lived a vibrant, full life defined by her lively personality and genuine love for those around her. A true social butterfly, she found joy in connecting with others and had a way of lighting up every room she entered. Whether she was on the tennis court, out sailing, or simply enjoying time with friends, Melba was always dressed for the occasion—carrying herself with southern grace, impeccable taste, and an effortless elegance that often drew comparisons to Princess Diana.
In the Savannah healthcare community, Melba was fondly known as “the Boss Lady”—a title earned through her strength, leadership, and unmistakable presence. Her patients adored her for her kindness and genuine compassion. As a Registered Nurse, she never settled for doing the minimum; she consistently went above and beyond, offering care that extended far past what was expected.
Above all, Melba cherished the connections she made throughout her life. She is survived by her brother, Tommy Smoak and his wife and daughter; her daughter, Lisa McPhee-Arnold; and her beloved grandchildren, Siera Dillman, along with her husband and children, Gavin McPhee and his wife, and Gabrielle Arnold. Her legacy lives on through them and the many lives she touched.
Melba was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Edward Don Ogle, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and memories.
She will be remembered for her vibrant spirit and her remarkable ability to make everyone feel seen and welcome. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel is assisting with a private celebration of Melba’s life. The family asks that you honor her memory by spending time with loved ones and embracing the joy of connection, just as she always did.
