The family of Matthew Scott Anderson, 44, announces his passing on November 1, 2026 with a deep love and enduring gratitude for the years shared. He leaves behind a legacy of resilience, deep connections and a life filled with the music he loved and shared.
Born on May 5th, 1982, he was the cherished son of Brenda and Robert Anderson. Matthew grew up on Isle of Hope, in Savannah, Georgia where he graduated from Benedictine Military School in 2000 and later attended Valdosta State University.
From the first moment his fingers strummed a guitar string, music became Matthew’s sanctuary, comfort and his language. He expressed his love to others through his gift of music. It connected him to the world that became his home. A world he lived in well. He breathed life into songs that serenaded the family and friends he adored.
To be counted among his friends was to be given a permanent home within his heart. To be loved by Matthew was to know a loyalty and warmth that time and circumstance could never alter. His legacy is one of a widened circle, where the boundaries between family, friend and brother were beautifully erased.
Through quiet courage and grace, he taught everyone around him what it truly means to endure. Though his guitar may have fallen silent, the melody of his life will continue to play in the hearts of those who loved him.
He is survived by his devoted parents, Brenda and Robert Anderson of Savannah; his sister, Nora Grace Anderson Wilber (Emmett) of Tennessee; his “Granny”, Betty Anderson of Savannah; his aunt and uncle, Julie and Mike Diebolt of Savannah; his cousin Ginnie Diebolt Britt (Harrison Britt) of Atlanta; Bailey Watts (Steven) and Kelsey Evans (Kenneth) and second cousins Mac Watts, Kason Evans and Holly Dale Britt, his dedicated, loving caregivers Tasha Bryan (20 years) and Arcola McCasky; and a beautiful circle of friends who became family. He was preceded in death by his loving grandparents, Juanita and Hugh D. McDougald Jr. of Savannah; Robert H Anderson of Savannah; His aunt Marsha Anderson Fiveash and cousin, Patrick Oliver Diebolt of Savannah.
A celebration of his life, filled with the music he loved, will be held on November 6, 2026 at 11:00 at Saint Thomas Episcopal Church, 2 St Thomas Ave, Isle of Hope, Savannah, GA.
