Obituary

Mary Ann Brown Simons, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great great-grandmother and friend, peacefully passed away on Sunday, May 17th, 2026, in Bloomingdale, GA. Born in Portal, Georgia, on Monday, October 17th, 1938, Mary lived a life full of love, service, and dedication to her family and community.

Mary was a devoted wife, preceded in death by her loving husband, Bobby L. Simons Sr. She was the cherished daughter of the late Nolan Brown and Eula Leila Cook Brown. Left to honor her memory is her son, Bobby L. Simons, Jr., along with her treasured grandchildren: "Trey" Bobby L. Simons, III, and his wife Megan, Elizabeth Todd and her husband Michael, Tiffany Simons, Staci Smith and her husband RJ, Niki Kreske and her husband Walter. Her legacy continues with her 17 great-grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and countless friends.

Throughout her career, Mary was dedicated to public service. She retired from Chatham County after 30 years of exemplary service, only to continue her contribution to the community by working for the Public Works Department in Effingham County, where she retired again after 10 years. Her commitment to her country was equally significant, as she proudly served in the Navy Reserves as a SeaBee, retiring after 20 years.

Mary had a zest for life that was contagious. She found joy in traveling, camping, and thrifting, and her greatest pleasure was spending time with her family. Known for her generous spirit, she crocheted blankets for everyone, ensuring her warmth enveloped those she loved even in her absence.

Family and friends are invited to honor Mary's life at her visitation on Wednesday, May 20th, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Baker McCullough Funeral Home Garden City Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm at the same location.
