Mary Ann Clanton Moffett, a cherished resident of Metter, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at the age of 90. Born in the vibrant city of Savannah, Georgia, to the late John Daniel Clanton and Nathaline Phillips Clanton on September 7, 1934, Mary led a full and rich life, deeply rooted in love and dedication to her family and community.
A devoted homemaker, Mary Ann crafted a warm and welcoming home for her husband, Charles John Moffett, who preceded her in death, and their beloved children. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond raising her children to embracing her grandchildren with the same unconditional love and care.
Mary Ann was known for her straightforward spirit—never hesitant to speak her mind or offer an honest answer. Her exceptional cooking was relished by all who gathered around her table, and she was always ready to lend an ear to those in need of comfort or counsel. Family was paramount for Mary Ann, a bond she celebrated and nurtured throughout her life.
In her leisure, Mary enjoyed tending to her garden, particularly her cherished azalea bushes and pecan trees. She found joy in watching classic TV shows, with "I Love Lucy" and "Golden Girls" being among her favorites, alongside timeless westerns. The melodies of Alan Jackson and Johnny Cash were staples in her home, filling her days with joy.
Mary Ann leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, survived by her children: Charles A. Moffett, Johnny J. Moffett (Sue Smith), and Patricia Counts (John Counts). She was the adored grandmother of Crystal L. Cranford (Shawn), Nicholas A. Schupp (Hayli), Stephanie L. Brightwell (Jacob), Danielle Maynard (Matthew), Jessica Boyden (Jonathan) and Whitney Counts. Her nurturing arms embraced nine great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her memory.
In addition to her parents and her loving husband, she was also preceded in death by her son, Lewis D. Moffett, along with her siblings: Ruby Atkinson, JD Clanton, Howard Clanton, Evelyn Hammond, Everette Clanton, John Clanton, and Robert Clanton.
Mary Ann was a woman of grace, strength, and unwavering love. Her spirit will continue to inspire those who knew her, living on in the cherished memories and stories shared by her family and friends.
