In Loving Memory of Martha Lee Utley
Sunrise: 01/22/1930 – Sunset: 04/17/2025
Martha Lee Utley, a cherished matriarch and guiding light to her family, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love she so freely gave throughout her life. Her journey here ended gently, but her legacy will continue to bloom in the hearts of those she loved.
Born to the late Luevenia C. Hopkins and Mark Henry Baker, Martha was one of five siblings—Jesse (Sadie), William, James and Mamiee—all of whom preceded her in death. Raised in a home rooted in love, faith, and perseverance, she carried those values into every corner of her life.
Martha was a devoted and loving mother to ten children: Judy, Muriel Junior † (Coretta) †, Muriel Thomas Jr. (Wanda), David †, Daniel (Gloria), Joseph (Patricia) †, Ananias (Linda), Meta (Daimon), Sarah (Melvin), and Mark (Earlene). Her deep love extended to 28 grandchildren, including the late Mark Jr. †(Skyy). Each grandchild held a special place in her heart: Derrik (Teresa), Christopher, Eugene, Carl, Patricia, Phyllis, Cordell, Robert, Dewanda, Omar (Nena), Shundrea (Jeremy), Lakeesha (Damon), Joseph Jr. (Deliluz), Anthony, Stephanie, Tiffany, Desseray, Kavanaugh, Sirron (Akillah), Luevenia, Bianca (Troy), Melanie, Tatyana, David, Sarah, Siani, and Markell. In addition to her immediate family, she leaves behind extended daughters, Elaine Taylor, Tammy McLaurin, Debra Meacham.
Martha was also blessed with a growing legacy of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews who brought her endless pride and joy.
She was the center of her family—a quiet strength, comforting voice, and a source of timeless wisdom. Her home was filled with warmth, laughter, and the unmistakable aroma of a good meal shared among generations. Her life was her testimony: one of compassion, faith, and unwavering devotion to those she loved.
She is reunited in eternal rest with her parents, siblings, her beloved sons Muriel Junior and David, and her grandson Mark Jr. Though her physical presence is no longer with us, her love lives on in every family gathering, every story shared, and every heart she touched.
"Her children arise and call her blessed." – Proverbs 31:28
