Savannah

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Martha Simmons Usry on Sunday, April 12th, 2026, at the age of 91. Martha was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who passed away peacefully in her home in Savannah, Georgia.

Born in Forest Homes, Alabama, on a warm Wednesday, August 22nd, 1934, Martha's journey was one defined by her unwavering love for her family, her dedication to her profession, and her passion for life. She spent her early years in Alabama before making homes in Louisiana, Tennessee, and Florida, eventually settling in Savannah in 1967, where she created a lifetime of memories.

Martha's calling as a registered nurse found its fulfillment at St. Joseph's Hospital, where she dedicated her caring nature and compassionate spirit until her retirement in 1996. Her nurturing soul extended beyond her profession as she cultivated beautiful gardens, relishing in the blooms of her beloved flowers. A proud supporter of Braves Baseball, as well as Georgia and Alabama college football, she was also a devoted member of White Bluff United Methodist Church.

Martha is survived by her devoted daughter, Iris Amick, and her husband Jamey of Atlanta, GA, and her loving son, Scott Usry of Garden City, GA. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Gradon White, Jaya White, Glover Amick, Melissa Cole, and Chase Usry, alongside many nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved spouse, Joseph Grayson Usry, her dear daughter, Amanda Usry Doyle, and her parents, John Graham Simmons and Annie Mae Simmons. Martha's life was a testament to the strength and resilience of the human spirit, and her impact on the lives she touched will forever be remembered.

A graveside funeral service honoring Martha's life will be held at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens Cemetery on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 11:00 am. Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating her remarkable life and legacy.
