Marlene Baker Bridges, 89, of Garden City, Georgia, passed away on July 4, 2026.
Born on July 28, 1936 in Cushman, Arkansas, Marlene was the child of Eugene and Nola Baker. She married William “Bill” Bridges in 1952, and together they built a life in multiple cities throughout the country before eventually settling in Garden City.
Marlene will be remembered for her love of family. She loved her playing cards with her grandchildren and found great joy in finding bargains. She and Bill enjoyed bowling, and she served as the secretary for the His and Hers Bowling League in Savannah for decades. She was dedicated to her faith, and held many positions in the Georgia Women’s Christian Temperance Union over the years. As she and Bill aged, they both delighted in the activities at the Garden City Seniors Center - they had many stories of their enjoyable trips with the group.
Marlene is survived by sons Paul Edward Bridges (wife Tammy) of Cookeville, Tennessee and Phillip William Bridges (wife Anne) of Marietta, Georgia, as well as four grandchildren (Jonathan Minton, Ian Minton, Amnesti McFarland, Bethany Pascal, Elizabeth Bridges, and Willam Bridges. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren (Abbigale McFarland, Gracie McFarland, Kyncee Gilbert and Cooper Harris), and two siblings (Freddie Baker and Patricia Collier), as well as multiple nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband (William Bridges) and daughter (Pamela Minton) as well as brothers Larry Baker, Darrell Baker, Rickey Baker and sisters Wanda Burnette and Nancy Ballejos.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, August 8, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Baker McCollough Funeral Home Garden City Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Bill and Marlene Bridges to Garden City Seniors Center, 78 Varnedoe Ave, Garden City, GA 31408.
