Mr. Mark Hopkins Molloy, age 68, of Savannah passed away on Monday, December 22, 2025.
Mr. Molloy was born on August 4, 1957 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Patrick P. Molloy and the late Helene B. Hopkins Molloy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen C. Molloy Winters.
Mark first visited Hilton Head Island with his family in 1960 when he was about 3 years old. He lived on Hilton Head during the 70's and 80's and began his love of making music there. He traveled to the Northwest and lived in Alaska and Seattle, Washington, during the late 80's and 90's and into the 2000’s. While in Seattle, he worked for Boeing Aircraft. But his love of music prevailed. Bucking Rivets did not cut it. Mark became well known in the local area as a talented slide, lead and rhythm guitarist. He played in many bands in that region, most notably with the Isaac Scott Blues Band, The Led Jackson Band and The Island Cowboys.
Mark moved back to the Southeast around 2010 to the Savannah, GA area, where he continued his musical career, quickly establishing himself with the local Savannah Music Scene. He was in several bands, often playing with his own band; Gypsy Slim. Mark loved playing the Blues, and he often said, “to really play the Blues, you have to suffer”, which unfortunately, he did in his later years, being plagued with many health issues.
Mark's scholastic years were spent in schools in the Atlanta, GA area, New York City, Manhattan, Hilton Head Island, SC and Bluffton, SC. Mark graduated from McKracken High School in Bluffton, SC.
Mark had a special fondness for animals, especially cats. For his birthday in 2023, he created a fundraiser for One Love Animal Rescue Group, Inc. requesting donations. His devotion and care for animals was evident from his earliest days to his latest. He even had paid in full Veterinarian bills when he had barely enough for his own needs. He fed the local cat population wherever he lived and was responsible for keeping many neighborhoods free from rats and mice. He called himself a "cat herder'. Mark was also a member of the local Savannah Movie hey days, often he and his car were cast as extras in various movies. (many of his scenes were unfortunately cut out.)
Mark had a dry sense of humor. He loved to laugh, play music, and be with friends.
WE LOVE YA, UNCLE MARK!!
Survivors include his older sisters, Moira Molloy Baggett (Charles) and Lisa M. Hanson (Greg) and 4 nephews and 3 nieces (and their extensive families.)
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 3rd, 2026, at 11 am at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel (7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406). We invite anyone who may have known Mark, to celebrate his life and memory with all of us.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in the name of Mark Molloy to any local animal shelter, or to one of his favorites, One Love Animal Rescue Group, Inc.
