Loran Armstrong Johnson

Mr. Loran Armstrong Johnson Sr, age 87, of Tampa, Florida, died, April 23, 2025, at his residence in Tampa, Florida. He was born on March 31, 1938 to Dr. Walter R. Johnson and Lucy Armstrong Johnson in Asheville, North Carolina. Loran lived in Tampa for the past sixteen years, and received a Bachelors Degree from the University of North Carolina in 1959 and later graduated from University of North Carolina Law School with Honors in 1962. He served in the United States Army and worked with Sutherland, Asbill, and Brennan LLP in Atlanta, Georgia and later Lowndes, Drosdick, Doster, Kantor and Reed, P.A. in Orlando, Flordia. Loran was a Christian by faith and a member of the Georgia and Florida Bar. He received numerous accolades during his career including, North Carolina Law Review, Order of the Colf, served as Chairman of the Corporate and Tax Law Department at Lowndes, and was on the Board of Directors with Messenger International Ministry. In his spare time he enjoyed playing golf, traveling with his wife, Sherrie Johnson, reading and studying the Word, laying out in the sun, fishing and sailing. Loran was very generous, humble, kind, strong, intelligent, but most of all he was faithful to God and his family. He is preceded in death by his wife of thirty-five years, Sherrie Kemp Johnson; his parents; a brother, Walter Royle Johnson Jr; and a sister, Lucy Gay Johnson.

His family includes his sons, Loran Armstrong Johnson Jr and George Ferguson Johnson; his daughters, Lainie Cottingham Johnson and Stacey Johnson Lax; and his grandchildren, Mary Nell Johnson, William Trask Johnson, Bailey Alexis Agulia, Savannah Kemp Lax, Summer Grace Lax, and Brooklyn Nole Lax.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel (7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406.) at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Bonaventure Cemetery.
