Lokey Byron Mckinney passed away at home on July 13, 2026 after a short illness.
He was born on August 31,1949 in Oetsego, WV to Lokey Mckinney and Vessie Mckinney. After growing up in WV he voluntarily joined the Airforce. He proudly served in Vietnam with the Security Police as a Door Gunner on a Huey helicopter. After Vietnam he was stationed in Germany and had several state side assignments. He left the Air Force in 1977 and moved to Savannah.
He had several careers after leaving the Air Force including correctional officer at Coastal Correctional Institute, manager of Promark Utilities Company, and operations manager at Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home. Byron became a Christian and was baptized at Southside Baptist Church. He was a member of Landrum Lodge No. 48 F.&A.M. and the Scottish Rite.
Mr. Mckinney was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Charles Mckinney and William Mckinney; and his daughter, Lisa Terry.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Judy Liles McKinney; children, Lynn (Rex) Gallion, Lokey Mckinney, Patrick McKinney, Jonathan McKinney(Kori); step-daughter Robyn (Johnny) Wood; 16 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Beaufort National Cemetery (1601 Boundary Street, Beaufort, South Carolina 29902).
Visitation will be held on Monday evening, July 20, 2026, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel (7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Georgia 31406).
