Mrs. Lena B. David, age 92, of Hardeeville, South Carolina, entered rest on Saturday, October 25, 2025. She was born on April 10, 1933, in Girard, Georgia, to the late Mack Bates and the late Lessie Clark Bates.
Mrs. David was a dedicated member of St. James A.M.E. Church on East Broad Street for over sixty-five years. At St. James, she served on the stewardess board, missionary society, sang in the senior choir, volunteered with the Brown Bag program, and served food during the Gap summer program. She was especially known for her beautiful smile, warmth, and loving presence. Professionally, Mrs. Daivid was employed as a nurse at Candler Hospital for 23 years and volunteered at Candler Hospital for several years following her retirement. She was also an active member of the International Longshoremen’s Association Women’s Auxiliary (Local 1414).
She enjoyed traveling with close friends, working with ceramics, tending to her flowers, antiquing, and shopping with her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Samuel M. David; and her siblings, Milton “Talmadge” Bates, Linberg Bates, Lessie McCormick, Henry Bates, and Eloise Mathis.
Mrs. David leaves to cherish her memory, four loving children; Lisa, Lorri, LaTrelle, and Sam; three in-laws, Michael, Brian, and Bridget; eight grandchildren, Gregory, Lauren, Ashley, Victoria, John, Jessica, James, and Danielle; and five great-grandchildren, Thaddeus, Zariah, Anastasia, Zayden, and Emilia; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. James A.M.E. Church, 632 E. Broad Street, Savannah, GA 31401. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Abbey East, 1600 Wheaton Street, Savannah, GA 31404.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406.
