It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kerry Lee Thompson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed chemist, on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2026. Born on July 19th, 1949, Kerry was a cherished resident of Savannah, GA. He leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and scientific curiosity that will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Kerry is survived by his loving wife, Kim Thompson, of Savannah, GA; his son, Tyler Deland; and his treasured granddaughters, Mikirah Sanders and Elana Deland. His family was his pride and joy, and he delighted in the time they spent together.

Kerry pursued academia with passion, obtaining his PhD before embarking on a distinguished career as a chemist with Pinova and Arizona Chemical Company. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Kerry embraced life with a hearty sense of humor and a relentless pursuit of knowledge.

An ardent lover of golf, Kerry could often be found on the greens, enjoying a game with his son and showing off his skills in the living room to his family. He was a dedicated fan of the Chicago Cubs and maintained a lifelong fascination with trains. His intellectual curiosity was boundless, particularly evident in his love for chemistry.

Kerry also found joy in serving his church community. He was a past Sunday school teacher at Southside Baptist Church and, at the time of his passing, a committed member of Chevis Oaks Baptist Church.

A visitation service will be held at Baker McCullough Funeral Home Garden City Chapel, Garden City, Georgia, on Saturday, September 26th, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. This will be an opportunity for family and friends to gather in remembrance of a life well-lived. The funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 27th, 2026, at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Baker McCullough Funeral Home Garden City Chapel with Pastor Kyle Waddell officiating.
