Mrs. Joyce Mitchell Longuet, 84, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 9, 2020 at Spanish Oaks Retreat in Savannah, GA.
She was born in Savannah, Georgia on July 24, 1936 to her loving parents, William S. and Clara Mitchell of Savannah. She married then Army Lieutenant Charles Longuet, Jr. on August 6, 1960. Charlie had found his Joy and they then served our country in Europe and the United States for twenty-three years while being blessed with 48 years of marriage.
She is survived by her only loving daughter, Lisa Joy Lugar, her son in law, Lieutenant Colonel (retired) Peter Lugar, her two cherished grandchildren, Lily Grace and Mitchell Scott, and her beloved partner Robert Upchurch of Garden City, Georgia, with whom she was able to share the last 4 years blessed in love.
Joy was a devoted wife to Army Lieutenant Colonel (retired) Charles Longuet, Jr. who passed away in 2008. She was dedicated to her family, her country, and her many “children” she lovingly inspired during her 38 year career as an elementary school teacher. One of her proudest accomplishments was her time spent as a Department of Defense teacher stationed in Europe. Joy loved being a mother, her beloved Savannah, sweet tea, beautiful flowers, beach music, her Lord, and travelling with family and friends.
She will be dearly missed by those of us fortunate enough to have been a part of her life!
