Joseph T. "Terry" Harper

Joseph T. “Terry” Harper, age 74, of Savannah, GA passed away Sunday, January 14, 2024 at home surrounded by his family.

Terry was born on February 4, 1949 in Savannah, the son of the late Jack and Marie Harper. He attended lower school at St. James Catholic School and was a 1969 graduate of H.V. Jenkins High School where he served as President of the DCT program. He served his apprenticeship with Local Union 188 and became a journeyman pipefitter/welder by trade. In 1983 he started Consolidated Plumbing and Mechanical and proudly served the community with welding, pipefitting, plumbing, HVAC, and general contracting. He was on the Board of Trustees of the Journeyman and Apprentices of Local Union 188 Pension Health and Welfare and Annuity Funds for over 35 years. He was also part of the JATC at Local Union 188. He was a past President of the South Georgia Mechanical and Erectors Association. Terry was an avid trout fisherman, hog and deer hunter, vegetable gardener, and talented cook. He loved to cook his barbecue, shrimp, and blue crabs. He also owned and operated his own shrimp boat. He shared his joy of cooking, hosting many meals at the Montgomery Athletic Association where he was a longtime member. As most people know, he loved to eat and knew many great hole in the wall restaurants. He loved gathering people together and having great fellowship and food. Over the years, Terry has been involved with many hunting clubs such as Halcyondale club, Hwy 30 club, H&D club, Mt Pleasant Hunting Club, and more. In his early years, he also hunted on Green Island, Ossabaw Island, and Skidaway Island before it was developed. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed sharing his knowledge and teaching his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Terry was preceded in death by his brother, Jack B. Harper, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Linda Cohen Harper; sons, John Harper and Joey Harper (Kaddie); daughter, Lindsey Harper Brown (Donald); brother, Mike Harper (Debbie); sister, Jackie Harper Baker; grandchildren, Grayson, Nora, Cohen, Max, Cody, Davis, and Sawyer; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406.

A funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 19, 2024 at St. James Catholic Church, 8412 Whitefield Avenue, Savannah, GA 31406. The family will be receiving friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Burial will follow the service at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Joey Harper, John Harper, Mike Harper, Jason Harper, David Cohen, & Steven Cohen.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Thomas Cohen, Danny Cohen, & Raymond Cohen.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Montgomery Athletic Association, 10155 Ferguson Avenue, Savannah, GA 31406 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
