Joseph Costa Alfieris

September 8, 1954 — December 25, 2025

Savannah

Joseph “Joey” Alfieris died early Christmas morning after complications from a recent surgery to remove a cancerous tumor.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Costa (Gus) and Julia Rousakis Alfieris and several wonderful aunts and uncles. He is survived by his sisters, Patrice Alfieris Kiley and Ann Alfieris Markou (Fotios), niece Emily Kiley Carra (Tom) and their children Thomas and Rowan along with several loving cousins.

Joey was definitely one of a kind. He was a complex man, infinitely talented, extremely intelligent, opinionated, very kind with an exceptional personality and witty sense of humor. He loved a good debate just for the sake of playing the devil’s advocate to get a reaction. Some refer to him as brilliant, and if you knew Joey, you know he would probably agree.

Joseph grew up in the Magnolia Park suburb in the 60’s, graduated high school from Herschel V. Jenkins, attended college at the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut and then on to The School of Visual Arts in New York following his calling for graphic design. After New York, he moved to Paris in 1984 where his artistic creativity grew by meeting and working with people, who like himself, were trying to hone their talents in the Graphic Design Industry.

He returned to Savannah in 1990, where he worked in the film industry while developing ideas for his new creative venture, CONTENTS Magazine. He used his keen eye for talent to find and showcase up and coming writers, photographers and actors, most of whom are very famous today. The magazine started out regionally and then grew to international acclaim. Joseph received numerous prestigious awards and accolades.

Joey loved great food, great wine, great films, great books and great company, but his main love was of his relationships with his family. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by those who knew and loved him.

Plans for Joey’s Memorial Celebration are still being decided.
