Obituary

John Smirnoff Jr., 94, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026.

He was born in Suffern, NY, to the late John and Catherine (Lobay) Smirnoff. John is survived by his devoted wife, Wanda (Chruscial) Smirnoff; his loving son, Michael (Kellie) Smirnoff; and his sister-in-law, Frances (John) Knight.

John graduated from Ramsey High School in 1949 and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky. Following his service, he built a long and successful career with Friedman Jewelers, where he worked for 35 years and rose to the position of Senior Vice President of Advertising and Merchandising. His dedication, creativity, and strong work ethic left a lasting mark on the company and the many colleagues who worked alongside him.

Beyond his professional life, John was a devoted father and mentor. For eight years, he generously volunteered his time coaching his son’s Little League, Pony League, and Colt League teams, creating lasting memories for the young players and their families.

John also had a deep love for golf and spent many enjoyable years on the course with friends at the Hunter Army Airfield Golf Course in Savannah. Those rounds of golf were filled with laughter, camaraderie, and the simple joys of friendship.

Above all, John will be remembered for his kindness, steady presence, and the love he shared with his family and friends. He lived a long and meaningful life defined by dedication to his family and loyalty to those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
