John “Strobel” Cawley III, age 48, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away on June 2, 2026.
Born on June 27, 1977, to Marie (Cota) Cawley and the late John Strobel Cawley, Jr. Strobel was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as well as a Boy Scout, obtaining his Eagle Scout at the age of 18. He had a deep admiration for history and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others. He found great satisfaction in working outdoors and spent a great deal of his life on adventures exploring the woods. Strobel was especially known for his enjoyment of gathering around a fire with family and friends, where many cherished memories were made.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Shannon Cawley, his father John Strobel Cawley Jr., and his siblings Sariah Elena Cawley and James Stewart Cawley. He is survived by his mother, Marie Cawley; his four children, Sariah Mendoza (Jesus), John Strobel Cawley IV, James Stewart Victor Cawley, and Alexander Robert Cawley; his siblings Daniel Robert Cawley (Rebecca), Benjamin Henry Cawley (Rachel), Joseph Hughes Cawley (Alisha), Matthew Dunsmuir Cawley (Jordan), Catherine Elaine Cawley (Luis Atencio), and Courtney Alexis Cawley; and 17 nieces and nephews.
Strobel’s life was marked by his love for family and his appreciation of history. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Visitation and a Celebration of Life Service at Baker McCullough Hodgson Chapel on Saturday, June 20, 2026. Burial is in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Savannah, Georgia.
