Joan
Brogan
Feb 13, 1946 — Jun 19, 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joan B. Brogan, age 80, of Savannah, who left us peacefully on Friday, June 19, 2026.
Joan was born on February 13, 1946, in Savannah, Georgia, to the late Russell Lee Billings and the late Betty Louise Bland Billings. She was a proud graduate of Jenkins High School, Class of 1964, where she built lifelong friendships and cherished memories.
Dedicated to caring for others, Joan pursued her passion for nursing, earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Armstrong State College and her Registered Nurse Diploma from St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing. She was also a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the Honor Society of Nursing. Joan enjoyed a successful and respected career in healthcare throughout Savannah and Jacksonville, Florida. Her keen eye for detail and commitment to excellence contributed greatly to her success in healthcare, risk management, and quality control, a career she proudly carried through until her retirement in 2013.
In 1989, Joan married the love of her life, Michael Carl Brogan, beginning a partnership built on love, devotion, and shared memories that would last a lifetime until his passing in 2010.
Joan’s caring nature extended far beyond her profession. She was a devoted caretaker to those she loved, selflessly tending to her husband and her mother throughout their lives with compassion, patience, and unwavering dedication. Her nurturing spirit touched everyone around her, and she was often the one others turned for comfort, guidance, and care.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Joan lived a life rich in culture, warmth, and simple pleasures. She held a deep appreciation for Italian culture, finding joy in the melodies of Italian music, the beauty of handcrafted pottery, tea pots, and the flavors of traditional cuisine she lovingly recreated in her kitchen.
Joan also had a lifelong love of books and could often be found lost in a good story, especially on a quiet afternoon with a cup of tea in hand on her back porch. Reading was both a comfort and a joy to her, offering moments of peace she treasured and knowledge she eagerly shared with others. Whether discussing a favorite passage or recommending a new read, Joan’s passion for books was just one of the many ways she connected with those around her.
Whether experimenting with a new recipe or perfecting a time-honored dish, Joan loved sharing her culinary creations with family and friends, bringing people together in the spirit of hospitality she so admired.
Joan also enjoyed the finer things in life—cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs and savoring quiet afternoons with tea and a good book. She hosted her beloved “Teacup Tuesday” on Facebook, where she connected with friends and shared her love for teacups, conversation, and tradition. Her treasured collections of antique teapots, imported nutcrackers, and artisanal pottery reflected both her elegance and her curiosity about the world.
Above all else, Joan’s greatest joy was her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend, admired for her wisdom, generosity, and the stories she so eagerly shared. Her grandchildren were truly the light of her life, and she took immense pride in nurturing their growth and curiosity.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Michael Carl Brogan.
She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Perdue (Scott) of Jacksonville, Florida; her son, John Michael Drake; her stepson, Sean Brogan (Melissa); her brother, Michael Billings (Jennifer) of Apalachicola, Florida; her grandchildren, Zackary James Drake and Dylan Michael Drake; and many extended family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
The loss of Joan leaves a void that cannot be filled, but her memory will live on in the traditions she cherished, the lives she touched, and the love she shared so freely.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
