Jimmy Rudolph Durden, of Daisy, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, October 7th, 2026, at the age of 72. Born on December 30th, 1953, in Savannah, Georgia, Jimmy lived a life marked by service, dedication, and love for family and community.
Jimmy was the beloved son of Margaret Durden of Garden City and the late Rudolph Durden. He is also preceded in death by his infant brother, Johnnie, and his beloved nephew, Robby Sanders. Jimmy is survived by his loving family, including his mother, Margaret; his brother, Bobby Durden of Garden City; and his sisters, Patsy Sanders and her husband Sandy of Hardeeville, SC, and Marie Austin and her husband Tony of Garden City. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, who will cherish the memories they made with him.
Growing up in the Avondale neighborhood, Jimmy graduated from Savannah High School and was known for his hard work and dedication from a young age, beginning his career at David’s and Big Star Supermarkets. His journey took a pivotal turn when he served his country with distinction in the United States Army. As an Anti-Tank Platoon Leader in the Combat Support Company in Mainz, Germany, Jimmy earned the Commendation Medal, a testament to his bravery and leadership. His honorable discharge as a Sergeant E5 after completing training on the Improved TOW Vehicle at Fort Hood marked the completion of a commendable military career.
Following his service, Jimmy transitioned into civilian life with the same steadfast dedication, retiring as a supervisor for Coastal Industrial Contractors, where he worked for many years at SNF Chemtall in Midway, GA. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends and family and was a true outdoorsman.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation, which will be held at Baker McCullough Funeral Home Garden City Chapel in Garden City, Georgia on Wednesday, October 14th, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Private burial will be held on a later date at Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Norristown, Georgia.
