Jackie Susan Matthews, born on St. Patrick's Day, 1944, in Hampton, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 6, 2026, in Savannah at the age of 81. Jackie was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Jackie was a graduate of Wade Hampton High School and dedicated over 25 years of her life as an Export Broker before retiring. A devout Christian, Jackie was a longtime member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and remained active at ConneXion Church after Aldersgate closed. She also cherished her time with the Order of the Eastern Star. Her faith and community were cornerstones of her life. Among Jackie's passions were collecting trinkets, watching Hallmark movies, and reading her daily devotional. Her most cherished moments were those spent with her family, whom she loved unconditionally and fiercely.

Jackie is survived by her sons, Christopher F. Matthews (Amy) and Lawrence E. Matthews (Audrey); her grandchildren, Amber (Michael), Josh, Tara (Jamie), Andrew (Britney), Dalton, and Molly; and her great-grandchildren, Jade, Jaxson, Jeorgia, Olivia, Navee, Memphis, and Oliver. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 44 years, David Joseph Matthews Sr., her son David J. Matthews, Jr., her parents Harry and Hautie Freeman, and four siblings.

Visitation will be held at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel, in Savannah, Georgia on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am at the same location. Jackie will be laid to rest on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Johnson-St. Paul Cemetery, 150 Country Club Road, Hampton, South Carolina.

In honor of Jackie's birth month, friends are invited to wear green to celebrate her life and spirit. Contributions in her memory can be made to St. Jude Children's Research, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee, 39105.
