Mr. Harry William McCarthy, age 92, of Savannah passed away on June 20, 2025, in Savannah, Georgia. Born on May 5, 1933, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Harry graced this world with 92 years of kindness, dedication, and love.
Harry spent over four decades of his life as a devoted paper maker at Union Camp, retiring after an impressive 42-year career. His hard work and commitment were admired by colleagues and friends alike, marking him as a cornerstone of his profession. He was known as "Yankee" to his coworkers being that he was from the north.
Harry served honorably in the U.S. Army, demonstrating his dedication not only to his family and work but also to his country. Prior to moving to Savannah, he would often visit Savannah in the summers and had a summer job of delivering seafood for Frank C. Matthews. While in Savannah, skiing with the late Pete Laikakis, he went to the bar at Tubby's in Thunderbolt, which was very unusual for Harry because he did not drink. However, going to Tubby's, he met the love of his life, Jimmie Rea McCarthy.
Family was very important to Harry. He loved his family. When his two grandsons were 13, he took each of them on a trip; one to Alaska and one to Busch Gardens in Virginia. Harry will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, John C. & Karen McCarthy; grandchildren, John Brian McCarthy, Sr. & Sean Christopher McCarthy (Sarah); and great grandchildren, Kimber McCarthy, Jace McCarthy, and John Brian McCarthy, Jr.
He was preceded in death by his father, Captain John A. Daley; his mother, Adel Schreck Daley; wife, Jimmie Rea McCarthy; and sisters, Adel Daley & Mary Daley Holmen.
