It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gordon Peeples Jr., a beloved resident of Pooler, GA, and Savannah native. Gordon was born on Sunday, December 26th, 1937, and departed this life on Thursday, July 30th, 2026.

Gordon was a dedicated employee at International Paper (formerly known as Union Camp) in Savannah, Georgia, where he committed many years of hard work and skill, working various schedules to support his family. In addition to his professional endeavors, Gordon honorably served his country as a member of the Coast Guard, and was a faithful servant at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Garden City for many years. While a member at Woodlawn, Gordon taught adult Sunday School for several years and served as a Deacon. He took these responsibilities very seriously and invested much in serving the local church.

Gordon was also a faithful husband, married to the late Margaret Cooper Peeples for almost 23 years. Gordon and Margaret had three children; two survive him: Jeffrey Gordon Peeples of Powder Springs, GA and Leigh Ann Kaman of Richmond, VA. Their other son, Matthew Thomas Peeples, preceded Gordon in death and their reunion was likely a sweet one. 

Gordon is survived by these two children, and his sister, Patty Peeples. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Savannah Leigh Patton of Hiram, GA, Benjamin Mark Kaman of Richmond, VA, Samuel Cooper Kaman of Richmond, VA and Margaret Grace Kaman of Richmond, VA.

Following Margaret's loss, Gordon was blessed to marry Carolyn in August of 1995. They were happily married for nearly 31 years, and enjoyed hosting children and grandchildren from both the Peeples and Sheppard families. He and Carolyn enjoyed volunteering at church together. She was his primary motivation to leave a hospital or rehab facility as his health failed in the last year. 

Gordon was preceded in death by his loving parents, Gordon Peeples, Sr., and Mary Clyde Peeples, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms. 

He spent his final days at his sister's home, encouraged by his family and visits from Carolyn. He left this earth in the early morning hours, with his daughter Leigh Ann at his side.

 Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during a visitation at Baker McCullough Funeral Home Garden City Chapel in Garden City, Georgia, on Saturday, August 1st, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held the following day, Sunday, August 2nd, 2026, at 3:00 pm at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Garden City, Georgia, to celebrate and honor the life of a remarkable man.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Baker McCullough Funeral Home-Garden City Chapel, ensuring Gordon's final journey is handled with the care and respect he truly deserves.

Gordon Peeples Jr. will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by his family, friends, and the community. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and service leaves an indelible mark on all who knew him.
