Gerald Ogden Cameron Jr. "Jerry", aged 78, passed away on Monday, August 18, 2025, at his residence in Savannah, Georgia, his birthplace and lifelong home. Gerald was a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, known for his love of family, dedication to work, and service to his country.
Born on September 21, 1946, to Gerald Ogden Cameron Sr. and Lois Poppel Buckner, Gerald cherished his roots in Savannah, the city that sculpted his formative years. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Janet Arlene Hughes Cameron, alongside whom he created a nurturing family environment filled with love and laughter.
Gerald proudly served his country in the Navy, imbuing his life with the values of duty and honor. Following his military service, he embarked on a long and fulfilling career with CSX Railroad where he retired as a sheet metal worker. A loyal colleague and a skilled craftsman, having left a lasting impact on both his coworkers and the industry.
Renowned for his amiable spirit, Gerald was a member of the American Legion Post 135, where he enjoyed the camaraderie and support of fellow veterans. In his personal life, Gerald found joy in gardening and tinkering with mechanics, passion projects that evolved into cherished pastimes.
Family was the cornerstone of Gerald’s existence. His son, David V. Cameron of Decatur, GA, and his daughter, Katherine C. Lavender of Winter Garden, FL, remain to carry forward his legacy. He delighted in the company of his grandsons, Shawn P. Lavender and Rowan J. Lavender, cherishing every moment spent with them in playful adventure and shared discovery.
Gerald's family invites all who knew him to join in a celebration of his life at a grave service to be held at Hillcrest Abbey East Memorial Park Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia, on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 12:00 pm. Before the funeral, a visitation service will take place at Baker McCullough Funeral Home Garden City Chapel, starting from 10:00 am until 11:00 am.
