Mr. Fred Lloyd Hodges Sr., age 87, of Savannah, died Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at his residence.
Lloyd was born in Savannah on July 24, 1937 to Fred Henry Hodges and Viola Martin Hodges. He lived in Savannah all his life and graduated from Commercial High School in 1955. He worked with Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company until his retirement in 1988. Lloyd had a servants heart, he served in the Air National Guard. Lloyd also served with the Southside Fire Department as Assistant Chief in the Wilmington Island Division and was President of the Southside Fire Department Board of Directors. His service didn't stop here, he would spend countless hours as "Patches" the clown entertaining children at Telephone Pioneer's functions, where he was named Mr. United Way for his work with the mentally and physically challenged. In 1967, he joined the Masonic Lodge and after his retirement in 1988 he joined the York Rite and Alee Shrine Temple, which led him to be a member of the Fire Brigade, Iron Knights, Thunderbolt and Tybee Masonic Lodges, and Tybee Lite Shrine Club. He was a proud member of the Alee Patrol of which he served as captain. Lloyd was named Emeritus Chaplain of the Alee Temple, an honor which combined two things he loved most: the Lord and helping children in need. He was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Temple, where he served as a Deacon and "Pray Warrior", involved in the Shut-In Ministry visiting in Hospitals and Nursing Homes. On June 12, 1960, he married the love of his life, Ann Beasley and they shared sixty-four wonderful years together. Lloyd was a the true measure of a Godly Man, and would tell you of all his accomplishments, his family was his greatest.
His family includes his wife of sixty-four years, Ann Beasley Hodges of Savannah; his children, CW5 Fred L. Hodges Jr. and Marianne L. Fischer and her husband Ed; special daughter-in-law, Becky Hodges; three grandchildren, Ashley Elder(Angela), Eddie Fischer(Ashley) and Elizabeth Fischer; and two great-grandchildren, Turner and Chloe.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel (7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406.) from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held Friday, May 16, 2025, at Calvary Baptist Temple at 11:00 a.m. with burial with Masonic Rites to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Fred L. Hodges Jr., Edward J Fischer Sr., Edward J Fischer Jr., Ashley Elder, Billy Mullins, and Robert Lindsey.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Deacons of Calvary Baptist Temple and members of the Alee Patrol.
