Dorothy Hiers Stokes, 95, of Savannah passed away at her home June 4, 2020.
Mrs. Stokes was born January 23, 1925 to the late Julius Hiers and Ruby (Freeman) Hiers in Hampton County, South Carolina.
She was a homemaker, lovingly raising four children with her husband, the late Linwood Stokes. The couple lived in Savannah for many years and were long standing members of the former Burkhalter Baptist Church. She was a devoted Christian and was very active in the church. In recent years, she attended services with her daughter at the Savannah Korean Church.
Mrs. Stokes enjoyed camping, most especially in the mountains. She was known for her wit, her sense of humor, and her feistiness. She adored spending time with her family, watching cowboy shows, and listening to Elvis Presley.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Ruby Hiers; her husband, Linwood Stokes; a son, Donald Stokes; three sisters and one brother.
Surviving are two sons, Irvin Linwood Stokes Sr. and James A. Stokes; a daughter, Gail Stokes; eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and eight great great-grandchildren. She was affectionately known as Grandma Stokes to every child she knew.
Visitation will be held at Baker McCullough Funeral Home Hubert C. Baker Chapel Tuesday June 9 from 11 to 1130am with a funeral service to begin at 1130am with Dr. Charlie Cooper and Pastor Kim officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest West Cemetery on Dean Forest Road.
