Obituary

Diane Long Hodges, 84, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away on the evening of Wednesday, October 14, 2026.

Born on July 29, 1942, in Long County, Georgia, Diane lived a life filled with faith, laughter, generosity, and an extraordinary love for her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose larger-than-life personality and unwavering love left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Witty, spirited, wonderfully stubborn, and just mischievous enough to keep life interesting, she had a way of making even the most ordinary moments unforgettable. Her generosity knew no bounds, especially when it came to her grandchildren, who were unquestionably the center of her world. Known simply as “Grandma,” she believed in spoiling them wholeheartedly, bending the rules whenever necessary, and making sure they never doubted how deeply they were loved.

Diane was a devoted member of Central Church of Christ, where she dedicated much of her life to her church family. Her faith was an enduring foundation of her life, and the friendships and relationships she cultivated through the church were among her greatest blessings. She gave generously of herself, loved wholeheartedly, and left a lasting impact on her church community.

Diane was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Edward Hodges Sr., whose memory she carried with her throughout her life.

She is survived by her loving children, Johnny Hodges (Donna) and JoAnne Hegarty (Joe); her cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth Wright (Ben), Henry Bowden (Kailey), and Tyler Hodges; her beloved great-grandson, Noah Wright; six step-grandchildren; and her brothers, Greg Long and Bobby Long.

Arrangements are being handled by Baker McCullough Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, where Diane will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.

Memorial contributions may be made in Diane’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association at Alzheimer's Association (https://Alzheimer's Association /).

Although her family will miss her beyond measure, they will forever treasure the laughter, memories, traditions, and unconditional love she gave so freely. Diane’s legacy is not simply in the years she lived, but in the countless ways she made the lives of those around her richer, brighter, and infinitely more memorable.
