Savannah

Delton Vestal Armstrong, of Loganville, GA passed away quietly Sunday evening, January 25, 2026, at the age of 97.

Del was born November 12, 1928 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Reverend Ernest and Pearl Armstrong. Del was the second of three children, who participated in serving the Lord and the Nazarene Church with his older brother Kenneth and younger sister Ernestine, as their father moved them from church to church spanning cities, states, and countries.

Del served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed at Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico. During this time he met Rhenna Lee Gonzalez who worked at the PX. A romance soon developed and they were married February 3, 1955. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Mike, Gregg (Linda), Delton Jr., and Elizabeth Veale (Glen, aka “David”). Del raised his family in Colorado, Michigan, and Georgia.

Del’s favorite hobbies were fishing and golf. As a fisherman he counted himself among the many that “never caught the big one”, but as a golfer he excelled. His walls are decorated with trophies and plaques won in local and state golf tournaments. He was respected as a golfer for his competitiveness and integrity.

Del was preceded in death by his wife Rhenna Lee Gonzalez Armstrong and his brother Kenneth Armstrong. He is survived by his younger sister, Ernestine Allen of Modesto, CA, four children, sixteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
