Savannah

Dean Thomas Gallagher, age 85, of Savannah, and formerly of Ridgeland and Bluffton/Hilton Head Island, SC, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2025.

Dean was born on June 28, 1940 in Auburn, New York to the late Joseph James Gallagher, Sr. and the late Frances Marie Gallagher. He grew up in Cherry HiIl, New Jersey, and was a hard worker with an entrepreneurial spirit. Dean married Marcee Fliedner in 1962, and went on to start his own landscaping business with her help. When they welcomed baby Traci, the little family was complete. In 1982, Dean moved their family to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina to start up a concrete business with a friend. Later, he worked for the Melrose Club, running the concrete plant on Daufuskie Island.

Dean was a kind, brave, and generous man who loved his family. He became Marcee’s caregiver in later years, and discovered a passion for cooking as she could no longer do it. He would do anything for his wife, daughter, son-in-law, and three grandchildren. Dean loved fishing, golfing, traveling, and spending time outdoors. He had an amazing green thumb and grew lots of day lilies, vegetables, and all kinds of plants. He leaves behind a legacy of love.

In addition to his parents, Dean was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Marjorie “Marcee” Gallagher; brothers, Joseph Gallagher, Jr. and Charles Gallagher; and sisters, Elizabeth Hass and Cora DiSimone.

Survivors include his daughter, Traci Schumacher (Jon); grandchildren, Anna Schumacher, William Schumacher, and Evan Schumacher; brothers, Robert Gallagher, D. Michael Gallagher (Rosalie), and Peter Gallagher (Lynn); and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital online at stjude.org/give or by phone at 800-805-5856.
