Savannah

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David William Stanhope Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. David departed this life on Saturday, June 7, 2025, in Savannah, Georgia, surrounded by family in the city where he was born and spent a lifetime filled with love, laughter, and devotion to family.

Born on September 19, 1953, David grew up in Port Wentworth, where he forged a path as a hardworking and dedicated truck driver for over 50 years, serving at several trucking companies in the area. Despite the challenging nature of his occupation, David was known for his jovial spirit, often punctuated by his quick wit and penchant for storytelling. He was a provider in every sense, a humble and selfless man who exuded a larger-than-life presence and an unwavering courage in the face of life's uncertainties.

A man of simple pleasures, David found joy in the great outdoors, engaging in activities like gardening, hunting, fishing, and crabbing. His homemade beef jerky was renowned among family and friends. A proud member of the Sons of the Confederacy, David was a testament to resilience and redemption, celebrating nearly 34 years of sobriety at the time of his passing.

David's true wealth was found in the bonds he built with his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Rose Stanhope, and his devoted children, Dave Stanhope (Tiffany), Angie Peavy (Mike), Ashley Rahn (Karrie McCartney), Casey Rahn (Stephanie), and Dee Dee Zeigler. He was a proud grandfather to seventeen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, each of whom he cherished deeply and kept a vigilant, protective eye. In addition, David is survived by his brothers, Ernie Stanhope (Debra), Frank Stanhope (Karen), Jim Stanhope, and Paul Stanhope (Debbie) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family members

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd E. Stanhope Sr. and Eleanor H. Stanhope, and his sisters-in-law, Sandy Stanhope and Shannon Stanhope.

Though he may no longer walk among us, the spirit of David William Stanhope Sr. will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to know him. David was indeed a simple, yet extraordinary man who considered himself rich beyond measure because of the family he loved so fiercely.
