David Allen Morgan, age 83, of Guyton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Monday, May
25th, 2026 at home surrounded by many loved ones that he cared for so dearly. Born on
December 30th, 1942, to the late Joe Allen Morgan and Sebie Kate Moore, Allen spent his early
childhood in South Georgia before planting his roots in the Savannah area. It was there that he
built a remarkable life defined by love, laughter, and dedicated service.
Allen above all else, was a true family man. His loved ones were his entire world. A devoted
husband, father, brother, and "Papa," he was known as a fiercely loving and generous man, who
would gladly give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He never met a stranger, effortlessly
gathering friends wherever he went—including the many staff members at his local Cracker
Barrel and McDonald's who came to meet his warm smile and baby blues.
Allen is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Morgan, of Guyton, GA and brother, Wilbur Eugene
Morgan. Allen raised one son (Joe Allen Morgan) and daughter (Wendy Morgan) and inherited
three bonus daughters: Stephanie Harvey (Bobby), Kerri Moore (Kevin), and Miranda Gerson
(Jonathan). His legacy lives on through his cherished 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren,
and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Allen also leaves behind his beloved dog and loyal companion,
Buddy, from whom he was inseparable through both work and play.
Allen is preceded in death by his father (Joe Allen Morgan), biological mother (Sebie Kate),
bonus mother (Thelma Morgan), brother (Larry Morgan), sister (Peggy Powell), and son (Joe
Allen Morgan).
Professionally, Allen began his career as an engineer and supervisor, eventually rising to Vice
President with Rogers Bridge Company before retiring from Balfour Beatty. He was renowned
for his commitment to excellence and teamwork. His passion for building bridges was more than
just a job; it was a testament to his lifelong commitment to connecting communities and people.
There isn’t a bridge in or out of Savannah (or the surrounding area) that Allen wasn’t involved in
building (except for the Talmadge Bridge).
At home, Allen found joy in the simple things. He could often be found outdoors, happily tending
to his yard and embracing the beauty of his yard work. His life was set to the soundtrack of
gospel and country music, which frequently filled the air around him (both by professional artists
as well as through his own singing).
Despite his many professional accomplishments, Allen considered his greatest legacy to be his
unwavering love for the Lord - a steadfast faith that inspired everyone around him.
A celebration of Allen’s life will be held on Friday, May 29th, 2026, at 1:00 P.M. at the Goshen
Road Baptist Church in Rincon, GA. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Family and friends
are invited to gather for visitation, which will be held one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Goshen Road Baptist
Church in Allen’s memory, a place that held a special place in his heart.
Arrangements have been thoughtfully overseen by Baker McCullough Funeral Home - Garden
City Chapel.
Allen will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will continue to be a guiding light
in the lives of those he touched.
