Obituary

Daniel “Danny” Abel, age 70, of Savannah, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2026.

Danny was born on July 4, 1955, in Savannah, Georgia, to the late Stuart Granville Abel and Lillie Mae Abel. He graduated from Herschel V. Jenkins High School with the Class of 1973. On August 28, 1978, at just 23 years old, Danny began his career with Union Camp. Over the next 46 years, he served in various positions as a dedicated employee before retiring on June 1, 2024, as a Control Operator.

When Danny wasn’t working, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, many of whom he met through a local Savannah dart league. While he never took the competition too seriously, he greatly enjoyed the camaraderie and friendships formed over the years. One of Danny’s favorite places was Rabun Beach and Tallulah Falls in the North Georgia mountains. There, he often spent weeks at a time camping and fishing with his two sons and their families, creating memories that will be cherished forever. Danny also loved browsing Family Dollar and Dollar Tree and never passed up a good buffet meal, especially at Western Sizzlin. He lived a simple life, appreciated a good meal, and had a generous heart. He rarely showed up empty-handed, often bringing random gifts as his unique way of showing love and thinking of others.

In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his brother, Jay Abel.

He is survived by his sister, Holly Ray (Carlton) of Savannah ,Ga; his two sons, Dan Abel (Lauren) of Savannah, Ga. and Rusty Abel (Linsey) of Tomah, WI; his grandchildren, Miss Katelyn, Natalie, Garrett, and Brielle Abel; his nieces, Heather Murphy and Brooke Jacobs (Tony); and many close friends.
