Mr. Clyde Douglas May, age 83, of Savannah passed away on Saturday. October 11, 2025.
Mr. May was born on June 25, 1942 in Pinsonfork, Kentucky to the late James Clyde May and the late Hattie Moore May. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy. After his service, he moved to the Chicago area where he worked for International Harvester. He later moved to Savannah where he worked and retired as a Chatham County Deputy Sheriff.
He enjoyed camping, fishing, geocaching, woodworking and occasional magnet fishing. Later in life after retiring, he became a motorcycle enthusiast and had just earned his Ham radio license. Clyde never knew a stranger and loved to talk to everyone and always enjoyed a good joke.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five of his siblings: Helen May Strahan, Darrell L. May, James (Jim) May, Larry M. May and Ted L. May.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Lucy Galletta May; two brothers, Leslie Keith May(Brenda) and John L. May (Debbie); his children, Donald J. May (Tammy), Christopher S. May, Richard E. Abney, Cynthia L. Carey (Jamie); his grandchildren, Shawn, Zackary and Randy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel (7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive Savannah, GA 31406).
Interment will follow in Greenwich Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Tuesday evening, October 14, 2025 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
