It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Billy J. Godbee, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and proud veteran. Billy passed away peacefully on Friday, October 17, 2025, at the age of 79 in his lifelong hometown of Savannah, Georgia.
Born on August 20, 1946, in Savannah, Billy lived a life characterized by dedication, service, and love. He was the son of the late Robert Godbee and Margaret Godbee and was predeceased by his brother, Robbie Godbee. Billy was a 1966 graduate of Savannah High School and pursued higher education at Armstrong State College.
Following his education, Billy served his country with honor in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, and was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal in recognition of his meritorious service. His commitment to service continued as he built a successful career in conveyor belt manufacturing and sales, where he was known for his strong work ethic and integrity. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church and Bible Baptist Church, where he was active with Sunday School.
Billy's life was enriched by his deep love for his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Fay Godbee; and his cherished daughters: Kimberly Godbee-Glisson and her husband Rex, Jenny Withers and her husband Tracy, Heather O'Brien and her husband Tim, and Amber Rivera and her husband Alex; he is also survived by his grandchildren, Tyler Withers, Tyson Withers and his wife Camryn, Brett Glisson, Jillian Withers, Molly O'Brien, Liam O'Brien, Kelly O'Brien, Finn O'Brien, Damariliz Rivera, Karen Rivera, Keisha Rivera, and Michelle Barker and her husband Devon. His family was a source of immense pride and joy for Billy.
A visitation will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Georgia, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Family, friends, and all whose lives Billy touched are invited to come and pay their respects.
Funeral services to honor and celebrate Billy's life will be conducted at Bible Baptist Church, 4700 Skidaway Road, Savannah, Georgia, on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow the funeral service at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family kindly requests that instead of flowers, donations be made to Hospice Savannah, Hope Children's Home in Tampa, FL, or Bible Baptist Church.
In his memory, Billy leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, service, and community spirit. Arrangements have been thoughtfully provided by Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel.
