Betty Jeane Baxter Pigott, age 96, of Savannah passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 2, 2026.
Betty was born on January 14, 1930, in Empire, Alabama to the late Britton Baxter and the late Jessie Williams Baxter. The Baxter family moved to Charleston, SC when Betty was young to allow her father to support preparation for World War II at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. Betty graduated from North Charleston High School and Rice Business College.
Betty was the widow of John H. Pigott, who died on February 14 of this year. They had been married for 76 years. She worked in the banking industry in several cities where she and John lived, ending her career at Great Southern Federal Savings Bank in Savannah.
Betty was a long-time member of the former Whitefield United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, held a number of leadership positions in the United Methodist Women, and served as treasurer of the church for many years. Following closure of that congregation, she became a member of Grace Church of Savannah.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her identical twin sister, Doris Baxter Jeter; brother-in-law, M. Scott Jeter; brother-in-law, Carl E. Pigott; sister-in-law, Teruko Pigott; and nephew, Carl E. Pigott, Jr.
Survivors include her daughter & son-in-law, Carol Ann & Bill Palmer; son & daughter-in-law, John Howard Jr. & Janet Pigott; sister-in-law, Lola L. Pigott; two grandchildren, Emily Anette Pigott and Johnathon Reid Pigott (Hannah); nieces, Susan Ahrens and Betty Pigott; and nephews, John E. Pigott and Dr. Ray S. Jeter.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Vickie Scott and the staff of Vickie's Helping Hands, LLC for their care and support of Betty. Additionally, the family expresses their appreciation to the staffs at Savannah Square, FOX Rehabilitation, and Hospice Savannah for their commitment to Betty's well-being.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Church of Savannah (6412 Waters Avenue, Savannah, GA 31406). Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens (315 Greenwich Road, Savannah, GA 31404).
Pallbearers will be John E. Pigott, Reid Pigott, Dr. Ray S. Jeter, Johnie Lynes, Jr., John Snelling, and Alan Barnes.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Grace Church of Savannah (6412 Waters Avenue, Savannah, GA 31406).
