It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Betty Jean Pennington Knight, a beloved homemaker and devoted family matriarch. Betty peacefully departed this life on Monday, August 4th, 2025, at her home in Bloomingdale, Georgia. She was born on Sunday, December 28th, 1941, in Statesboro, Georgia, to Jakle Pennington and Henrietta Aldridge Pennington.
A pillar of warmth and love, Betty was best known for her dedication to her family. She was a wonderful homemaker, an incredible cook, and a skilled seamstress, who lovingly created many of her children's clothes as they grew up. Her role as a loving wife and mother extended further as she became a doting grandmother and great grandmother, who loved her grands with all her heart.
Betty’s life was enriched by her love for cruises, a cherished tradition she shared with her late husband, Gene Edward Knight Sr. These adventures created lasting memories that her family will forever hold dear.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Edward Knight Sr., her daughter, Cynthia "Cindy" Knight Hashaw, and her loving parents, Jakle and Henrietta Pennington.
Betty is survived by her son, Gene E Knight Jr., and her cherished grandchildren Jacob Knight, Joseph and Thomas Taranovich and Johnny and Billy Hashaw, and her great-grandchildren, Jonah, Skylar, Daxton, and Jacklyn,who will continue to honor her memory by living their lives with the grace and love she bestowed upon them.
Visitation will be held at Baker McCullough Funeral Home Garden City Chapel in Garden City, Georgia, on Thursday, August 7th, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A funeral service will follow at the same location at 11:00 am, where family and friends will gather to celebrate the beautiful life of Betty Jean Pennington Knight.
