Savannah

Betty Sloan Hurndon, 77, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away peacefully at her home on October 30, 2025.

She was born on March 3, 1948, in Savannah and was a lifelong resident of her beloved hometown. Betty was the devoted wife of Charles Hurndon for 50 years, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Betty grew up in Savannah and graduated from Herschel V. Jenkins High School. She attended Ferguson Avenue Baptist Church, where her faith was a guiding light throughout her life.

Betty’s last employer was Blue Cross Blue Shield, where she worked as a dedicated Data Processing Operator. She was known for her attention to detail, reliability, and strong work ethic. Her commitment to doing every task with care reflected the way she approached all aspects of her life.

She found happiness in the simple things—keeping her home tidy and welcoming, taking pride in maintaining a beautiful yard, reading her Bible, completing word search puzzles, and shopping at Belk’s and Dillard’s. Betty also loved watching Hallmark movies, which reflected her warm heart and appreciation for stories of love, family, and kindness.

Family was at the center of Betty’s world. She is survived by her devoted husband, Charles Hurndon; her beloved daughter, Rhonda Oliver, and son-in-law, Dr. David Oliver; her beloved son, Thomas Hurndon; her grandson, Erik Hurndon; her granddaughter, Ashley Coppage, and her husband, Patrick Coppage; her grandson, Austin Williams, and his wife, Mollie Williams; her step-grandsons, Benton Oliver and Steven Oliver Jr.; her sister, Joyce Hayslip; and her brother, George Sloan. She will also be remembered by her faithful fur baby, Coco, and by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Each of them was a constant source of pride and joy in her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ada and T.C. Sloan; her sisters, Janelle Findley, Katherine Conway, and Pat Coker; and her brothers, Tommy Sloan, Finley Sloan, and Billy Sloan.

In loving memory of Betty’s life, family and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel in Savannah, Georgia, on Sunday, November 2, at 2:00 p.m. followed by a burial service at Greenwich Cemetery

Betty will be remembered for her kind spirit, her gentle heart, and the love she gave so freely. Though she will be deeply missed, her warmth, laughter, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
